About The Ben Kinsella Trust

The Ben Kinsella Trust was founded by Brooke Kinsella and her family after her brother Ben was fatally stabbed in Islington in 2008, aged just 16, in an attack that had nothing to do with him. The Trust exists to stop that happening to another family. Its work centres on education and campaigning, taking young people, schools and communities through the real consequences of carrying a knife and pushing for the policy change needed to back it up.

About The Laura Hyde Foundation

The Laura Hyde Foundation was set up in 2018 in memory of nurse Laura Hyde, who died by suicide in 2016. Its focus is the people who look after everyone else: NHS staff, social care workers and emergency services personnel across fire, police and ambulance, who receive a free, independent and clinically supervised mental health support service.

Magnifying Difficult Conversations

What they needed support with

Magnify PR has supported the Ben Kinsella Trust and the Laura Hyde Foundation on work that carries real weight because the subject matter is hard to talk about, and harder still to get right: knife crime prevention and the mental health of frontline workers, where the job is making sure important voices are heard clearly, carefully and at the right moment.

How we delivered

The Ben Kinsella Trust was set up after 16-year-old Ben Kinsella was murdered in Islington in 2008, and its work is rooted in prevention, education and the belief that young lives can be protected when knife crime is treated with urgency. Magnify helped take that message into the national conversation, supporting coverage across ITV, the Daily Mirror, the BBC, the Daily Express and GB News, including an open letter from Brooke Kinsella, placed through the Press Association. Magnify has also supported the Laura Hyde Foundation, which protects the mental health of medical and emergency services personnel, helping bring frontline trauma and staff wellbeing into sharper public focus.

What the results were

The Ben Kinsella Trust’s open letter from Brooke Kinsella was picked up by more than 100 media outlets, and its wider calls for knife harm reduction, including safer kitchen knife design, gained further weight when Morrisons became the first UK supermarket to stop selling sharp-pointed kitchen knives, a tangible policy shift linked directly to the campaign’s momentum. The Laura Hyde Foundation’s campaigning has secured coverage across the Sunday Mirror, ITV News, BBC Scotland, The Sun, The Times, Channel 5 News, LBC, Nursing Times and Nursing Standard. Both campaigns show the same principle at work: serious subjects, handled with judgement, can move from private struggle to national policy conversation, and stay there.
